AER0862 Introduction to Hybrid and Electric Vehicles and Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Service Safety (CCP)
Corequisites: VPI0100, VPI0200, VPI0300
This course will introduce students to the history, technology, benefits of electric cars, and Vehicle Service Safety and systems operations. Students will understand Hybrid/EV components, such as batteries, electric motors, and power electronics. The topics covered include shop safety, OSHA rules, identification and proper use of shop tools and equipment, and lift training for hybrid and electric vehicles. Additional topics include the use of electronic service information, proper use of measuring tools, EPA rules on hazardous waste handling and disposal as well as safety procedures for working on or around high voltage systems. Instruction will include classroom and laboratory activities to meet industry and safety standards.
