EQST 1675 Training the Roping Horse II
This course is a continuation of
EQST 1670, taking the horse started on cattle through the many stages of roping, both in the pen and from a roping box. The emphasis is on correct horseman- ship principles as well as physical and mental preparation of the horse and rider. The student must supply a horse and tack for this course. (2 lect., 2 lab)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Learn and apply knowledge of NIRA and PRCA rules regarding competition in roping events.
2. Demonstrate how to draw stock and set up a barrier for roping.
3. Apply humane treatment and Animal Rights Laws.
4. Analyze training theories and methods used for today’s roping horse.
5. Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in the correctness of horse and rider position during delivery of the rope, stop after delivery and holding the stop.
6. Catch a calf or steer while adhering to the above guidelines.
