PHYS 425 Solid State Physics

This course provides a basic understanding of the arrangement of atoms and elecronc in solid state materials, and how atomic structure is used to explain the macroscopic properties of the material. Topics include crystal structure, crystal diffraction, reciprocal lattice, lattice vibrations and phonons, free electron theory, energy bands in solds, semiconductors, adn optical properties of materials.
