BIOL 325 Medicinal Botany

A survey of the use of plants in modern pharmacology and as herbal supplements. Topics include biosynthesis and function of plant secondary molecules; selected plant-based pharmaceuticals; analysis of efficacy, safety, and regulation of herbal supplements; taxonomy of important medicinal plant families, and plants as nutraceuticals. Three lectures per week.
