WELD 2610 Ornamental Iron Work
This course introduces the student to various techniques in creating ornamental metal projects. The student will learn the proper use of all welding equipment as well as various surface treatments for metal. Emphasis will also be on the students’ creative ability to produce a final project. All material needed for special effects and fabrications are to be furnished by the student. Prerequisites: Completion of WELD 1550 and WELD 1610 or instructor’s permission. (1 lect., 2 lab)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Describe and organize a proper work environment to create ornamental iron products.
2. Identify tools and equipment used in ornamental iron fabrication.
3. Demonstrate the proper use of the tools and equipment identified in object 2.
4. Identify the types of metals used in ornamental iron products.
5. Demonstrate the use of interpreting charts of forging and temperature colors.
6. Produce the following ornamental designs: Scrolls, Trivet, Scarf Collar, Crab Net Bow, Chain, Hooks.

Personal supplies provided by the welding student:
1. Safety glasses whether they are prescription or not.
2. Welding helmet.
3. Replacement lens for welding helmet.
4. Oxy-fuel cutting goggles or face shield with #5 shades.
5. Welding gloves, full-length leathers, or appropriate protective clothing.
6. Appropriate footwear; steel-toe boot preferred or leather shoes. NO TENNIS SHOES
7. Hard hat or other suitable head covering.
Tools required and provided by welding student for this course include the following:
1. Metal tool box
2. 10" crescent wrench
3. Channel lock or plumbers pliers
4. Soap stone or metal marking pencil
5. 10’ or 25’ tape measure
6. Tip cleaner
7. Wise-grip pliers or needle nose pliers
8. Chipping hammer
9. Wire brush
10. Combination square
11. Heavy duty 6" C-clamp
