CNTK 1880 Interior: Drywall Applications
This course is designed to teach the student how to plan, select, and install gypsum drywall on walls and ceilings in a residential structure. Instruction includes estimating material requirements, selecting and installing fasteners, and installing sound/fire rated walls. This course is presented in conjunction with
CNTK 1882 Interior: Taping, Mudding, and Texturing. (1 lect., 2 lab)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Identify the different types of drywall and their uses.
2. Select the type and thickness of drywall required for specific installations.
3. Select fasteners for drywall installation.
4. Explain the fastener schedules for different types of drywall installations.
5. Perform single-layer and describe how to install multi-layer drywall installations using different types of fastening systems, including:
5a. Nails
5b. Drywall screws
5c. Adhesives
6. Describe or demonstrate how to install gypsum drywall on steel studs.
7. Explain how soundproofing is achieved in drywall installations.
8. Estimate material quantities for a drywall installation.

During this course, the student should expect to be exposed to various tools, materials, substances, and liquids that are used in the construction industry. These products may be hazardous if handled improperly. The student is required to follow established safety procedures and to consult Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) when necessary. The student must contact the instructor for guidance before using unknown materials or tools in class or on the work site. The student is required to possess basic personal safety equipment including eye and hearing protection and to wear shirts, long pants, supporting/protective footwear, and other clothing necessary to work safely at a construction shop/worksite. Failure to come to class prepared or failing to follow safe work procedures may result in summary dismissal from class.
