WELD 2700 Welding Certification (Plate)

This course is designed to prepare individuals for the requirements necessary for AWS structural steel certification. The Structural Steel Certification Test must be administered by a qualified AWS Certified Weld Inspector. For students who choose to take the Structural Steel Certification Test, a separate charge for administering the welding certification will be assessed by the AWS CWI. Prerequisites: Sufficient welding background to pursue testing according to industry codes. Contact the instructor for a skill level placement test for admittance into the course. This is an eight-week course. (4 lab)

  • Weld according to AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Code.
  • Certification test

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Comply and maintain a safe work environment according to the CWC shop policies.

2. Associate the requirements of testing through planning, preparation, and the ability to follow directions.

3. Relate the information provided in the "Welding Procedure and Qualification" and how to apply it to the welding certification test.

4. Interpret the information presented in the AWS D1.1 Structural Steel procedures in preparation for the welding certification test.

5. Complete the welding certification test in accordance to code.

Personal supplies are to be provided by the welding student: 1. Safety glasses whether prescription or not. 2. Welding helmet 3. Replacement lens for welding helmet 4. Oxy-fuel cutting goggles or face shield with #5 shade 5. Welding gloves, full-length leathers, or appropriate protective clothing. 6. Appropriate footwear; steel-toe boot preferred. **NO TENNIS SHOES** 7. Hard hat or other suitable head covering. Tools required for this course are to be provided by the student to complete certification testing.
