ART 2487 Special Projects: Sculpture
This course is designed for the student wishing to explore a single aspect of sculpture in-depth. This course will be offered as 1, 2, or 3 credits depending on the topic and semester. Topics will be identified in the current schedule and will include areas such as metals, addition or subtraction methods, assemblage, new media and installation. This course may be repeated for a maximum of six credits applicable towards graduation. (.5 lect., 1 lab/1 lect., 2 lab/1.5 lect., 3 lab) (Max 6)
Major Topics
- Extensive exploration of the principles of design and elements of art (Elements: 1. Line, 2. Shape, 3. Color, 4. Texture, 5. Value).
- Critical/creative thinking and idea generation strategies.
- Technical proficiency with sculpture media.
- Historical and contemporary art concepts and theory.
Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Identify and use the elements of art and principles of design to arrange elements within the drawing format.
2. Identify and use the vocabulary of art.
3. Make aesthetic and intellectual judgments while speaking, reading and writing about the artwork of historical and contemporary artists, as well as their own artwork and that of other student’s, through presentations, critiques, sketchbook entries and research paper.
4. Describe and identify historical and contemporary art, theory, and artists.
5. Develop technical proficiency in various sculpture media.
6. Develop and use the creative process for the production of original artwork. ???
