ART 2480 Special Projects: Drawing:
Special Projects: Drawing is designed for the student wishing to explore a single aspect or topic of drawing in depth. The course will be offered for 1, 2, or 3 credits depending on the topic and semester. Topics will be identified in the current schedule and will include courses such as anatomy, figure drawing, portrait drawing, pastel drawing, and mixed media with drawing. This course may be repeated for a maximum of six credits applicable toward graduation. (.5 lect., 1 lab/1 lect., 2 lab/ 1.5 lect., 3 lab) (Max 6)
Major Topics
- Extensive exploration of the principles of design and elements of art. (Elements: 1. Line, 2. Shape, 3. Color, 4. Texture, 5. Value)
- Critical/creative thinking and idea generation strategies.
- Observation and rendering in drawing media.
- Technical proficiency with drawing media.
- Historical and contemporary art concepts and theory.
Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Identify and use the elements of art and principles of design to arrange elements within the drawing format.
2 .Accurately render form in pictorial space from direct observation.
3. Identify and use the vocabulary of art.
4. Make aesthetic and intellectual judgments while speaking, reading and writing about the artwork of historical and contemporary artists, as well as their own artwork and that of other student’s, through presentations, critiques, sketchbook entries and research paper.
5. Describe and identify historical and contemporary art, theory, and artists.
6. Develop technical proficiency in various drawing media.
7. Develop and use the creative process for the production of original artwork.
