GEOL 3412 Petrology

This course introduces the student to basic properties, modes of origin, and methods of identifying, classifying and describing the rock-forming minerals and the three classes of rocks. This course includes three laboratory hours per week with emphasis on identifying, describing and interpreting samples in hand specimens and outcrops; thin section examination with the polarizing microscope will be introduced and practiced. Field trips required.
