The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Nursing (UTRGVSON) is an institution committed to providing the best educational environment for the development of nursing leaders. Established in 2015 following the merger of University of Texas Brownsville and the University of Texas Pan American, UTRGVSON followed in the footsteps of these legacy programs that produced successful, professional nurses for five decades. The School of Nursing was created with a vision to educate professional nurses to provider quality nursing care to the residents of the Rio Grande Valley, the State of Texas, and beyond. UTRGVSON is committed to the advancement of nursing science, the promotion of clinical scholarship and the education of clinical leaders, advanced practitioners and researchers.

At UTRGVSON we focus on helping our students realize their potential contributions to health care through strong educational programs, expert faculty and a community of learning. Surrounded by faculty who are experts in their nursing practice specialty they provide innovative pedagogies to actively engage students in their own learning and professional development.

The School of Nursing is committed to educating professional nurses to meet the increasing health care needs of a culturally diverse, growing population and develop practitioners with critical thinking skills who provide culturally competent, holistic nursing care.

As part of the UT Health System the School of Nursing collaborates with other health programs and clinical affiliates across the Rio Grande Valley. The School of nursing has a strong collaborative relationship with the Division of Health Affairs to support the School’s mission of education, research and patient care. Our state-of-the-art Simulation Hospital, innovative teaching strategies, and committed faculty provide our learners with optimal opportunities and environments to enhance growth and professional development. Nursing students have the opportunity to engage with collaborative peers and experts in medicine, social work and health professions in the classroom and across regional and global healthcare systems.
