Physics Minor (23 hrs.)

Jannen School of Arts and Sciences - Mathematics and Physics Department

The physics minor provides students with an opportunity to further develop their knowledge of the fundamental principles of physics and their applications. The physics minor curriculum complements the primary studies of students majoring in a related field, or those who simply have an interest in physics.

Mission

Provide students with an opportunity to develop an essential background in physics, and strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills that can be applied in scientific and technical disciplines beyond physics.

Outcomes

Our program assures that students attain the following outcomes:

  1. Conceptual Reasoning: Apply the fundamental concepts of physics, including those of mechanics, electromagnetism, and quantum mechanics, to scientific phenomena and real world scenarios.
  2. Quantitative Skills: Apply mathematical and computational skills to analyze physical systems, solve problems, and make scientific predictions.
  3. Laboratory Experience: Perform experiments, collect data, and apply quantitative analytical techniques to analyze and interpret data.
  4. Interdisciplinary Connections: Apply physics as it relates to other disciplines such as sciences (chemistry, biology), engineering, health care, and education.
