Sociology

Messiah's Sociology Department offers a robust program for students interested in the study of society and culture. Students can pursue a bachelor’s degree in sociology with the option for a concentration in anthropology, criminology, or urban studies. Students approach their studies from both a scholarly and real-world perspective, participating in challenging courses and developing skills in social science research. The program at Messiah College fulfills the American Sociological Association’s recommendations for undergraduate education.

Sociology students improve life for others, promote social justice, and bridge cultural divides in service of humanity. They are adaptive, lifelong learners who thrive in a fast-changing and diverse world. During their studies at Messiah Collage, students gain a greater understanding of society through study abroad programs, internships, and service-learning opportunities. The Sociology major is efficient and flexible, allowing students to pursue a minor and/or study abroad options.

A recent alumni survey shows Sociology graduates working in the for-profit sector (31%), non-profit and ministry (12%), law (13%), education (12%), and human services (22%). Many develop successful careers with a B.A., before working toward a master’s or doctorate.
