The artistic, political, and religious expression of the Spanish Baroque. Selected works of Gongora, Quevedo, Calderon, the Spanish mystics, including Santa Teresa de Jesus and San Juan de la Cruz, and painters such as Murillo, Velazquez, Zurbaran and others. The decline of the Habsburgs, the Council of Trent, and the role of the Catholic Church in Spanish society of the Baroque period. Meets QuEST/General Education Literature requirement.
