NUR 494 Nursing Leadership

This course will provide an overview of concepts related to leadership theories, roles, and management functions. In addition, the application of concepts such as planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and managing in nursing practice will be discussed. The student will collaborate with a nurse manager to apply effective leadership, decision-making, and communication skills. The student will focus on how the nurse manager influences patient care outcomes, collaborates with nursing staff, and other professional team members, addresses quality and safety issues, and gain insight related to how healthcare systems are organized and financed. Clinical practice experiences provide opportunities to integrate the concepts presented throughout the course into clinical practice.
