NUR 491 RN to MSN Bridge Course

This course will provide an overview of community and global health nursing environments. Topics will include social determinants of health, health promotion, health disparities, and disease management control strategies. In addition, key management, and nurse leadership theories necessary for nursing care delivery in the 21st century will be explored. The student will collaborate with a nurse working in a community health setting to provide direct patient care addressing the needs of individuals, families, or groups in the community while designing and implementing coordinated, patient-centered plans of care. The student will collaborate with a nurse manager to apply effective leadership, decision-making, and communication skills. The student will focus on how the nurse manager influences patient care outcomes, collaborates with nursing staff, and other professional team members, addresses quality and safety issues, and gain insight related to how healthcare systems are organized and financed. Clinical practice experiences provide opportunities to integrate the concepts presented throughout the course into clinical practice.
