Dignity and Unity

Healthcare Education That Affirms and Integrates Dignity & Unity

Your courses and clinicals at Mercy College are grounded in the courage, caring and faith of the Sisters of Mercy. The Sisters are healthcare heroes who first arrived in Toledo during a cholera epidemic and later founded our College during the Spanish Flu pandemic to teach and prepare nurses to care for the needs of the community.

Our legacy is learning to treat and heal everyone within dignity and promote unity, especially in providing for the poor, the dying and the underserved.

Our mascot is the Blue Healer, an animal companion who is protective, determined, and focused on service.

Themes that drive your experience and coursework at Mercy College are:

  • Success in Completion, Calling, and Career
  • Excellence in Teaching and Learning
  • Emotional Intelligence in Healthcare
  • Cultural Competence in Healthcare
  • Understanding Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health

At Mercy College, the Office of Dignity and Unity supports faculty, staff, and students in the educational process of preparing our students “…to lead and serve in the global community.”
