GER1010 Biopsychosocial Aspects of Aging

Optimal aging is presented from a biological, psychological, sociological, and environmental perspective and what contributes towards and detracts from optimal aging is explored.  The course also examines cognitive and mental disorders common in late life and explores the causes and symptoms of the most common neurodegenerative disorders and chronic disease management.  This course promotes an experiential approach to team based models of care which pairs knowledge with skill development versatile for all professional disciplines working with older adults with neurodegenerative disorders, behavioral health issues, and social barriers.  It is  recommended for all health professions, social work, counseling, criminal justice, education, and human resources.
