Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Identify and place the major periods of western history and their corresponding artistic movements in chronological order.
2. Identify distinctive features of major artistic periods, and match significant works of art with their creators and time periods.
3. Identify historical periods/artistic movements and connect them with the developments in science, technology, economics, politics, and philosophy that influenced them.
4. Identify differences and similarities among historical periods, cultures, artistic movements, and individual works of art.
5. Explain the influences of earlier artistic periods on subsequent periods.
6. Describe and analyze prominent works concerned with human culture and experience, particularly the quest for meaning and value.
7. Describe the beliefs and values of different cultures through exploration of their works of art, music, theatre and literature.
8. Examine and determine the influence of the various artistic movements upon the development of the human cultures associated with them.
9. Attend and evaluate a musical performance, an art exhibit, and a theatrical performance, using concepts and terms presented in the course.
