CSMO 1500 Intro to Nail Technology

In this course the student will explore the structure, composition, and growth of nails. The student will learn about diseases and disorders of the skin and nails. The student will learn hands-on techniques for nail care, application of nail products, manicures, pedicures, as well as hand, arm, feet and leg massage.  Prerequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in CSMO 1701, CSMO 1702 and CSMO 1720 (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

Describe the nine basic parts of the nail unit.

Describe characteristics of normal healthy nails.

Identify diseases and disorders of the nails that should not be treated in a salon.

Demonstrate hand, nail, and skin analyses on a model.

Demonstrate the proper cleaning and disinfection of tools and foot spas.

Perform basic manicures and pedicures.

Identify bones, muscles, and nerves from the deltoids to the fingertips.

Identify proper methods of communication through consultations.

Explain proper infection control processes for manicures and pedicures
