Program Description

The Fire Science Technology AS degree program offered at Palm Beach State College meets the national model curriculum of the Fire and Emergency Service Higher Education (FESHE) initiative, the industry certification requirements of the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, and the high academic standards of Palm Beach State College. The program prepares students to face the many and varied challenges encountered in the fire and emergency services. This is accomplished by delivering quality instruction in a convenient and flexible manner. Depending on their career goals, students can pursue either the Fire Supervision Concentration or the Fire Prevention Concentration.

The Fire Prevention Concentration is appropriate for students seeking to become fire prevention professionals or for those already in the fire prevention workforce who wish to advance their careers. This version of the Fire Science Technology AS program is offered in a hybrid format; the majority of courses are offered online, while others must be delivered in-person. Students in this concentration can also take advantage of industry certification recognition. This approach considers students' professional achievements, granting college credits to those who have relevant work experience and hold certain state of Florida fire service certifications. Upon completion, students will possess not merely a regionally accredited associate's degree, but all the coursework needed to attain the following state of Florida fire service certifications: (1) Firesafety Inspector l, (2) Firesafety Inspector ll, and (3) Fire and Lifesafety Educator.
