SOWK 356 Engaging Diversity and Inequality
An examination of the origins and structure of social inequality in contemporary society with a focus on systems of economic, gender, racial, and ethnic inequality. Students will be introduced to classical and contemporary theories of inequality and will examine the roles that both culture and social institutions play in perpetuating inequality in the United States and globally. In addition, students will be introduced to historical and contemporary movements to address inequality and promote social justice. Meets General Education Pluralism in Contemporary Society requirement.
