Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Describe and explain major theories and perspectives used to examine organizational communication.
2. Define the role of the professional communicator in strategic organizational communication.
3. Analyze organizational communication systems, processes, and structures from multiple perspectives.
4. Demonstrate the ability to analyze communication ineffectiveness within an organization on interpersonal, small group and organizational level.
5. Evaluate and discuss solutions after identifying communication ineffectiveness by applying organizational communication concepts, models, and theories.
6. Distinguish between various styles of leadership and determine which style is most effective based on specific organizational circumstances.
7. Identify, evaluate and explain the effect of culture, gender and power in organizations, and discuss strategies on how to identify specific strengths and challenges in particular organizations.
8. Describe how specific communication behaviors may be used to manage opposition to change in organizational contexts.
9. Identify career option areas and educational preparation for organizational communication.
