AUTO 2800 Problems in Auto Technology
This independent study course allows students to work on individualized learning projects related to their interest and occupational objectives in automotive technology. Students may earn one, two, or three credits any one semester and may apply no more than 6 credits toward graduation. (4 hours lab per credit)
Major Topics
- Safety and proper shop procedures
- The student will determine the other major topics with the assistance of the instructor. These topics will be written down in the "Student Agreement" (SA).
Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Pass the CWC automotive safety tests with a score of 70% or better
2. With the instructors assistance, develop a Student Agreement plan that will include the following:
2a. Identify the project and list the goal(s) related to the student’s interest and/or related to the improvement of a student’s skill
2b. Articulate in writing realistic learning objectives.
2c. Identify specialized equipment, tools, etc. that may be required to complete the project.

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.
Required Materials:
Text: A text may be needed depending on the learning the student desires. The student and the instructor will explore the need for a text when the "Student Agreement" (SA) is filled out.
Other: The learning goals agreed upon in the "Student Agreement" (SA) will determine the need for other learning supplies. The student and the instructor will explore this need when the SA is filled out.
Materials Furnished by CWC: A list of recommended tools will be given to you when you fill out the SA. Any unusual requests will be agreed upon by the student and the instructor and written down in the "Student Agreement".
Materials supplied by the student: All equipment that comes into direct bodily contact with the student must be supplied by the student. OSHA blood born pathogen regulations do not allow for the sharing of direct contact equipment. Examples of direct contact equipment are: safety glasses, face shields, rubber gloves, ear plugs, hats, etc. Students must supply this type of equipment.
Students are required to furnish the following auto safety equipment and basic hand tools:
• Provide safety glasses and protective coveralls
• Provide their own basic tools which include the following:
? screwdrivers
? pliers
? sockets and drivers
? wrenches
? hammers and punches
? and other basic tools as needed
CWC will supply the lifts and special tools.
Software: The learning goals the student sets with the instructor will determine the need for software. The student’s need for software will be discussed when the "Student Agreement" is filled out. All software must be approved by the IT department before it is loaded on to CWC computers.
