CSMO 1705 Hair Fundamentals

This course covers the basic structure of hair, hair care practices, and an introduction to the principles of hair design. The student will learn the five elements and five principles of hair design and gain an understanding of the influence of hair type on various hair styles.  Prerequisites: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in CSMO 1701, CSMO 1702, and concurrent enrollment in CSMO 1700 (8 lab)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

Identify hair type, density, porosity, elasticity, and scalp condition.

Demonstrate proper shampooing, conditioning, and draping procedures.

Explain the various tools of haircutting.

Demonstrate four basic haircuts.

Demonstrate six basic braids.

Demonstrate a roller set and comb out, including back combing or lacing.

Demonstrate perm wrapping.

Demonstrate lines, sectional parting, elevations, and guidelines.

Demonstrate the consultation process.

Demonstrate infection control procedures for all services introduced.

Demonstrate skills in practice of fine arts such as visual, performing or literary art. (refer to General Education crosswalk)
