ATC 502 Materials and Techniques of Art Therapy Practice

This course will provide students with the opportunity to integrate understanding of the safety, psychological properties, and ethical and cultural implications of art-making processes and materials selections in order to design art therapy strategies which address therapeutic goals. Students will incorporate ethical and cultural considerations in materials selection and therapeutic applications. Students will be able to distinguish among the therapeutic benefits of a variety of art processes and media, strategies and interventions, and their applicability to the treatment process for individuals, groups, and families. They will continuously deepen self-understanding through personal growth experiences, reflective practice, and personal artmaking to strengthen a personal connection to the creative process, assist in self-awareness, promote well-being, and guide professional practice.
