LEARNING CENTER
The goal of the UTRGV Learning Center (LC) is to assist students by promoting academic success for students throughout their academic career. Our tutors and peer leaders are recommended, and hand selected by our faculty based on their content knowledge as well as their ability to work with students who are at various levels of their academic career. The following are the main academic support programs that we offer at the Learning Center (click link for description and availability): Tutoring & Peer Collaborative Learning. Tutoring offers one-to-one, small group, study group, embedded tutoring in select courses, online tutoring and a variety of workshops hosted at the Learning Center, residence halls on both campuses and online. Peer Collaborative Learning offers Supplemental Instruction (SI), and Peer-led Team Learning (PLTL).
Academic Coaching for Excellence Programs (ACE)
Academic coaching is an interactive process that assists populations like adult
learners, Suspension Appeal approved students, and College of Engineering and
Computer Science Majors. The program also accepts referrals and students are
able to make appointments based on staff availability. Academic Coaching focuses
on the personal relationship created between the student and the coach. This
process is facilitated by trained Academic Coaches who are also students and
peers. They guide students in understanding and adapting their learning behavior
by challenging them to think about their personal and/or professional goals in order
to relate them to their academic/educational goals. Academic coaches help
empower students to take responsibility for their own learning.
Our purpose is to help students work towards becoming independent learners.
Everyone at The Learning Center works towards ensuring our students succeed by
providing them with various support services in a welcoming, friendly environment.
What we enjoy the most is seeing the lightbulb in our students’ heads go off, that
"AHA!" moment. To reach us for connections to any of these services please refer to
