BIOL 417 Molecular Genetics

Use of molecular genetic approaches to study the relationship between gene structure and function in eukaryotic model systems. Both forward and reverse genetic approaches will be surveyed. Focus on developmental genetics emphasizing critical reading and discussion of primary research publications. Laboratory experience with genetic model systems Arabidopsis thaliana and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, using PCR-based gene mapping and gene knock out.
