PHIL 356 Minds and Machines

A machine with strong or general artificial intelligence is capable of though, understanding, and counsciousness. There is much debate about whether such machines can be built and (if they can be built) what it would mean for a computer to be capable of genuine understanding. In this course, we will examin these conflicting claims. In addition, we will consider some of the philosophical, ethical, and practical implications of such machines. Meets QuEST Science, Tech and the World requirement.
