Accounting (B.S.)

Program Overview

This major specifically prepares students to meet the ever-increasing market demand for liberally trained accountants. Messiah College students have the option of concentrating in either public or corporate accounting. After taking a special review course in their senior year, students are prepared for the CPA examination before they graduate. Over the past 20 years, Messiah College students who have taken the CPA exam have ranked in the top five in the state for percentage of parts passed.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates from Messiah’s Accounting program can:

1. Recognize how accounting aids in planning and policy-making, basic terminology used in the internal revenue code and regulations along with Auditing philosophy, standards, and environment.

3. Demonsrate how accounting aids in planning and policy-making, basic terminology used in the internal revenue code and regulations along with Auditing philosophy, standards, and environment.
4. Effectively measure, assimilate and communicate economic data.
5. Apply foundational content related the Common Professional Component.
6. Apply marketing concepts, strategies and tactics.
7. Develop a comprehensive corporate financial analysis report.
8. Articulate their awareness of their self-identity and vocational calling.
9. Articulate the importance of Christian principles, ethics, personal and company values, and socially responsible business practices.
