Academic English Program

Program Director: Cynthia Goforth
Administrative Assistant: Donna Zack

Mission

The mission of the Academic English Program (AEP) is to prepare our international students for study in an American college and to help them participate in American society. We are committed to preparing students linguistically, academically, spiritually, and culturally for studying at Messiah College.

About

The Academic English Program at Messiah College is designed to teach academic English skills to students from all parts of the world. It exists to help students whose first language is not English acquire the language proficiency necessary for taking classes at Messiah College and participating in American society. The length of time you study in the AEP depends on your level of English when you start the program.

Programs

The AEP offers three programs, each uniquely designed to help students whose first language is not English gain the language skills necessary for college level classes.

  • AEP Bridge - designed for international students holding an F-1 visa. The curriculum includes both core academic English courses and American culture courses.
  • Credit AEP - designed for U.S.-educated English learners and other non-native English speakers who have immigrated to the U.S. The curriculum consists of credit-bearing core academic English courses in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • AEP Writing - designed for both international students and other non-native English speaking students who desire to develop their academic writing skills. The curriculum consists of three different writing courses.
