CSMO 1600 Intro to Skin Technology

This course is an introduction to skin structure, disorders, and nutrition. The student will learn analysis procedures and facial treatments that promote the health and well-being of the skin. Product technology, massage principles, and hair removal techniques are covered in this class.  Prerequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in CSMO 1702. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Describe the structure and function of the skin.

2. Identify the food and nutrients essential for healthy skin.

3. Identify the common disorders and diseases of the skin, including acne, skin lesions, pigment, skin cancer, and aging skin.

4. Explain manual massage process.

5. Identify the different hair removal techniques and contraindications.

6. Perform infection control procedures in all practices.
