Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Describe the characteristics of a professional dental assistant and the roles and responsibilities of members of the dental team.
2. Review the American Dental Assistants Association Code of Ethics and the State Dental Practice Act.
3. Discuss Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protocols related to confidentiality and the patient record.
4. Describe the specific areas of the dental office and the importance of a welcoming and functional environment.
5. Identify the clinical equipment commonly found in the dental treatment area.
6. Identify the landmarks of the face and oral cavity.
7. Review the anatomic features, types, and functions of the teeth.
8. Demonstrate correct dental charting.
9. Examine the causes and mechanism of action of dental diseases.
10. Demonstrate patient education in oral health care and nutrition counseling.
