Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Examine the parts of the patient dental record, including how the dentist uses the record to manage patient treatment.
2. Describe examination and diagnostic techniques used to evaluate a patient’s oral conditions.
3. Identify common dental hand instruments and their use in delivering dental care.
4. Set-up instrument trays for dental procedures.
5. Describe the types of partial and full dentures and their proper care.
6. Describe the dental assistant’s role in restorative procedures, including tooth preparation.
7. Prepare materials for making impressions and restorations.
8. Demonstrate the use of oral evacuation systems and isolation techniques used to decrease moisture during dental procedures.
9. Discuss the role of a dental surgical assistant, including after care.
10. Demonstrate proficiency in dental charting using correct terminology.
11. Demonstrate safe and comprehensive dental care.
