CMAP 1715 Word Processing Applications:

This comprehensive course covers basic to advanced word processing theory and applications. Students acquire advanced word processing skills in formatting, working with columns and tables, collaborating, integrating with other applications, working with master documents, customizing toolbars, and creating macros. Emphasis will be on helping students increase productivity and efficiency. Recommend: Completion of CMAP 1200 or computer experience. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Create documents that demonstrate basic word processing skills, including formatting paragraphs, characters, and documents; selecting and editing text; and using writing tools.

2. Create documents with tabbed columns.

3. Use the table and column features available in word processing programs.

4. Use sections to modify portions of documents.

5. Insert pictures and charts within word processing documents.

6. Use styles to create and format documents.

7. Use desktop publishing features to produce documents that contain newsletter-style column layout, pull quotes, linked text boxes, and multi-sections.

8. Produce electronic forms through the use of fields—text, check box, and drop-down form fields.

9. Produce mail merge letters, mailing labels, envelopes, and catalogs.

10. Use macros and customize menus and toolbars.

11. Produce advanced tables and charts, including nested tables, tables with calculations, and imported Excel charts.

12. Produce long reports that contain footnotes and endnotes, indexes, and tables of content.

13. Manipulate master documents.

14. Produce documents that facilitate the use and analyses of documents by multiple users.

15. Create Web pages and other documents containing hyperlinks.
