MDIA 2300 Journalism for New Media

This course focuses on video storytelling for New Media. It stresses script analysis and working effectively with the community, classmates, and actors. This course highlights effective lighting design and organizational skills and processes commonly used in pre-production, production and post-production. Skills developed in previous media production courses are amplified, enhanced, and refined through a combination of in-class exercises and outside projects. Prerequisites: Completion of ENGL 1010. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Identify the three stages of production.

2. Produce and plan short-form documentaries for new media.

3. Research under time constraints.

4. Organize a story through storyboarding.

5. Management a production schedule.

6. Demonstrate proper camera technique.

7. Illustrate the process for setting up and conducting an interview.

8. Shoot cut-aways and B-roll.

9. Perform proper audio set up and monitoring technique.

10.Light a one-subject interview.

11. Organize interview video, b-roll, and notes in a scripted story.

12. Edit short-form documentaries for new media using the latest editing software.
