READ 412 Structured Language

This course will examine the components of semantic, syntactic, and discourse processing. Students will study the developmental progression of writing and the instructional techniques for teaching manuscript and print with particular emphasis on multi-sensory strategies. Students will examine grade and developmental expectations for students’ writing in the following areas: mechanics and conventions of writing, composition, revision, and editing processes. Students will recognize and explain the relationship between transcription skills and written expression while recognizing and explaining common orthographic rules and patterns in English. Special emphasis will be placed on an understanding of morphology, word origin, and grammar.
