MUS 336 Seminar in Ethnomusicology

Upper-level exploration in various topics in ethnomusicology, the interdisciplinary study of music within its cultural context. Discussion of music in the human context, examining specific social functions and phenomena such as music and migration, music and ritual, music and dance, music as a commodity, and music as propaganda. This course seeks to explore universal elements of various types of music while developing the ability to recognize and identify unique manifestations of music from different regions of the world.
