MUS 213 Music Theory III

Further study of functional diatonic harmony primarily in the common-practice period: diatonic seventh chords; sequences. Study of small formal units: cadences, phrases, and periods. Study of chromaticism in tonal music: secondary function; modal mixture; chromatic pre-dominants. Techniques of modulation. Part-writing, melodic writing, score analysis, and aural analysis.
