Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration in History (MAIS)
Overview
The Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration in History is an advanced history program designed for students looking to continue growing their knowledge in the field. The program deepens knowledge and helps develop analyzing, research, critical thinking, leadership, and communication skills. Students learn about the past through different historical eras, diverse cultures, famous and ordinary men and women, and a variety of geographical settings. The program can be tailored to the students' goals and interests. The program challenges students to think critically, express themselves clearly, and become informed and responsible citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the MAIS program in history, prospective candidates must first meet all requirements for graduate admission to UT Rio Grande Valley, as well as the other requirements listed below:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a recognized international equivalent with minimum of 12 hours of upper-division and 9 hours of lower-division History course work.
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester credit hours.
- GRE General Test. GRE test scores are valid for 5 years. A waiver of the GRE requirement will be granted to applicants who show proof of completing a graduate degree (master’s or doctoral). GRE School Code: 6570.
- Two letters of recommendation from professional or academic sources.
- Letter of intent
- Writing sample of at least five pages with citations and bibliography
