Program of Study - Educational Technology (MED) - Accelerated Online Program
The Master of Education in Educational Technology is designed to prepare persons in K-12, higher education, corporate, and military settings to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for the classrooms and boardrooms of tomorrow. Graduates of this program will have a much better understanding of the uses of technology and how they can be applied in instructional/training settings.
The program focuses on the theory, research and applications related to the field of educational technology and is intended to help individuals:
- Use instructional technology (computers, telecommunications and related technologies) as resources for the delivery of instruction
- Serve as facilitators or directors of instructional technology in educational settings and/or be developers of instructional programs and materials for new technologies
- Design instructional materials in a variety of media
In addition to earning an M.Ed. in Educational Technology, students also have the opportunity to earn a graduate certificate in E-Learning or Technology Leadership, or both.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the graduate program in educational technology, prospective candidates must first meet all requirements for graduate admission to UT Rio Grande Valley, as well as the other requirements listed below:

Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester credit hours. If applicant does not meet the minimum undergraduate GPA criterion, GRE general test with minimum scores of 150 Verbal, 141 Quantitative, and 4.0 Analytical are required for conditional admission.
- Letter of intent.
- Resume.

Professional Portfolio
Students will develop, submit, and defend an e-portfolio at completion of all coursework requirements. The first review of this portfolio is due after completing 18 credit hours. In addition to successfully completing all other program requirements, the student must also receive a “Pass” judgment on the e-portfolio from at least 2 of 3 faculty reviewers in order to graduate. Students whose e-portfolios are deemed “not ready” for final review are returned to the student for further development with detailed feedback. If students can make the needed modifications in time for graduation, their e-portfolios will be re-evaluated. Otherwise, students will need to resubmit their e- portfolios in the following semester.
