DBMS 620 BIOMEDICAL ASPECTS OF DENTAL CARIES
This course presents current, evidence-based information about biological aspects of dental caries. Topics include microbial mechanisms of caries; histopathology of
enamel, dentin, and root surface caries; composition and functions of saliva as they relate to dental caries; fluorides in dentistry, their mechanisms against dental decay, and systemic effects; dietary and nutritional aspects of caries; salivary dysfunction; remineralization of enamel; anti-cariogenic properties of chlorhexidine and xylitol; and caries risk assessment.
