Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Identify/use resources and tools available to them to help them succeed in college and in life.
1a. Create a relationship with advisor, library, and financial aid office
1b. Navigate Moodle, My Advisor, and Cloud Mail
1c. Use and assess Google docs, and basic Google searches
2. Identify academic policies, procedures and programs at CWC.
2a. Identify CWC support services around campus and through CWC online
2b Locate and view the CWC student handbook, course catalog, and semester schedule of courses
3. Create a personal mission statement and realistic goals
3a. Identify the qualities necessary to thrive in college and the workplace
3b. Complete the Get Real with Your Goals activity
3c. Identify time management strategies to achieve specified goals
4. Assess their own learning needs
4a. Complete and critique the Discovery Wheel and Learning Style Inventory
4b. Identify VARK learning styles, Multiple Intelligence strengths, and Personality attributes – and identify study habits and communication skills based on these inventories
5. Describe and use skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary to succeed in a collegiate multi-cultural environment
5a. Explain how memories are stored and accessed and identify study aids to increase retention of material
5b. Reading: demonstrate application of a reading comprehension strategy, and complete a career research assignment through library and internet resources
5c. Diversity/ Communication: Identify different conflict management strategies across cultural groups- Develop a relationship with a businessperson and/or person on campus that relates to career development – Pre-Interview Preparation and Conclusion Paper
5d. Demonstrate a note-taking method after observing a class of interest on campus, and/or attendance of a community/ government/ collegiate meeting
5e. Use Critical thinking to: Evaluate Job Opportunities and Discuss media/ social media critical thinking skills
5f. Testing- identify test taking skills and discuss methods to overcome test anxiety
5g. Financial skills: Calculate the costs of education, and potential career profits (education by the hour) and Identify available financial aid opportunities and deadlines
5h. Identify and discuss healthy/ harmful behaviors
6. Locate and use career planning tools
6a. Complete and Critique the Jung Typology Test
6b. Meet with advisor and evaluate CWC Program Evaluation in order to develop an academic plan
6c. Create a resume
6d. Write a two page Career Objectives paper
Weekly lesson plans for all sections of UNST 1000 will be provided by the Liberal Arts division the content of which must be covered in class.
