MUSC 1410 Vocal Ensemble
Vocal Ensemble is a performance-oriented course designed to study and rehearse/perform standard chamber choir literature encompassing periods of music history from the Renaissance through Contemporary. Students develop skills in sight reading, music theory, and vocal technique within the ensemble setting. Choir members evaluate music performed using recordings (video and audio) of concerts. In addition, members evaluate recorded examples of literature the choir is currently rehearsing. Each musical work is performed with consideration to its cultural/historical context. This course may be repeated for a maximum of four credits applicable toward graduation. Prerequisite: Instructor's permission. (2 lab) ARTS

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Rehearse and perform standard concert choir literature.
2. Discuss and study accurate performance practice.
3. Perform and discuss works affiliated with varied cultural and gender identity.
4. Evaluate performances and rehearsals through listening and discussion.
5. Develop an appreciation for the work?s contribution to our society.

Music studied by the student changes each semester, which gives the student opportunity to read, play, listen to and analyze music in different cultural / historical contexts. In addition students expand their abilities in each of these areas of music study.
