MDIA 1000 Intro to Mass Media

This course surveys the communication process through the lens of convergence, showing how different aspects of media are parts of a whole and examines how they influence each other and society. Topics include contemporary and traditional views of communication with an historical perspective. Students earning credit for MDIA 1000 may not earn credit for COMM 1000. (3 lect.) HUM

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Analyze the evolution of human culture upon the development of print, film, radio, television, the Internet, and social media.

2. Differentiate between creative and informational perspectives of mass media.

3. Explain the three types of convergence and their implications on society.

4. Describe the legal and ethical perspective of mass media.

5. Summarize the psychosocial perspective of mass media.

6. Analyze the possible role media played in society’s interpretation and response to an event in world history.
