THEA 2020 Theatrical Backgrounds Drama II

This course provides a foundation in western drama from the Seventeenth century through the Post-modern period. Selected plays will be examined within their historical and cultural contexts and in relation to developments in theatre architecture, acting, directing, and design. THEA 2010 and THEA 2020 may be taken out of sequence. (3 lect.) HUM

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Analyze and critically assess the structures, themes, plots, characters, language, and conventions of the assigned plays in written and oral formats

2. Identify developments in theatre architecture, acting, directing, design, and conventions of the periods covered

3. Discuss the cultural, historical, philosophical, artistic, and religious contexts of the plays in written and oral formats

4. Analyze the beliefs and values of the different cultures reflected by the plays

5. Discuss research and writing as it relates to theatre, and draft an original research paper
