Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. identify ways the computer has changed education,
2. discuss how the basic components of a computer system operate,
3. choose appropriate hardware in terms of established criteria,
4. demonstrate how a word processing program operates,
5. utilize and create a repertoire of word processing, desktop publishing, database, and spreadsheet activities for the classroom,
6. describe the features of desktop publishing, database and spreadsheet programs,
7. evaluate software based on standard criteria,
8. list strategies for using various numbers of computers in the classroom,
9. describe examples of major software in at least four curricular areas,
10. discuss the features of a variety of teacher utility software,
11. describe some ways multimedia can be incorporated into teaching,
12. identify and discuss two popular on-line services,
13. describe social networking and explain how it operates,
14. discuss distance learning and its implications for education,
15. identify four criteria for selecting Web sites,
16. elaborate on different effective classroom applications of the Internet,
17. explain the importance of programming languages and their application to the classroom,
18. give key arguments for and against teaching Logo,
19. identify and discuss major ethical issues regarding computers, and
20. discuss how technology will change the traditional roles in education of the teacher, students, and parents.
