Portfolio Assessment
College-level learning acquired through college-level courses, work and other learning activities such as independent reading and study, or other self-directed learning, may be assessed via portfolio.
Contact the appropriate program faculty to determine if this option is available for the course you wish for review. Admitted CWC degree-seeking students in good academic and financial standing may petition to receive credit via a portfolio assessment or evaluation of prior experience for courses numbered 1000-2999. This method of obtaining educational credit is not recommended for all students and/or courses. Some students may obtain a combination of Credit by Exam and credit via Portfolio Assessment at the same time as faculty evaluate their prior experience.
1. Students must not be currently enrolled in the course to be assessed.
2. Students may seek credit via portfolio assessment for any given course only once in a twelve-month period.
3. The fee for credit by portfolio assessment is $50 paid before the assessment is made. The fee is not considered tuition for the course, therefore is in addition to tuition paid for all other registered courses for the semester in which the credit for portfolio assessment earned.
4. Credit awarded will be determined by program faculty.
5. A copy of the Portfolio Assessment Policy and Request Form is available upon request from the Student Records Office.
6. Please note, credits earned through Portfolio Assessment might not be accepted for transfer at another institution.
7. Evaluation and transcription of credit earned through portfolio review will be completed within 20 business days when submitted during the fall or spring terms. Portfolios submitted during the summer term or holiday breaks may require additional evaluation and processing time.
8. Credit via portfolio assessment is not available for courses for which CLEP is available.
