DNTA 2820 Dental Infection Control
This course covers the principles of infection control related to dental assisting, including an overview of disease transmission and infection prevention, sterilization, aseptic technique, hazardous and infectious waste, and standard precautions set forth by regulatory agencies. The student will learn concepts of preventing, recognizing, and responding to medical emergencies in a dental office. (3 lect.)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
Examine the basic concepts of microbiology in relation to disease transmission and infection control in the dental office.
Apply the principles of aseptic technique in dental assisting.
Explain infection control regulations governing health and safety in dental practices.
Identify preventive measures to minimize the severity of dental emergencies.
Discuss the management of medical emergencies that may occur in a dental office.
