Incomplete Grade

An incomplete grade (“I”) is a temporary grade which may be given at the instructor's discretion to a student when illness, necessary absence, or other reasons beyond the control of the student prevent completion of course requirements by the end of the academic term. Students may request a grade of Incomplete by following the below procedure/guidelines:

  1. Students submit a formal request to the instructor either in person or in writing.  Students must request an Incomplete prior to the last day of the term as listed on the Academic Calendar (https://mercycollege.edu/academics/academic-calendar).
  2. Instructor recommends the limit for the length of time to complete the Incomplete to the dean. This time may not extend beyond the published end of the following fall, spring, or summer semesters in the Academic Calendar (https://mercycollege.edu/academics/academic-calendar).
  3. Instructor records a grade of "I" in the student information system when assigning grades at the end of the term.
  4. Students receive the Incomplete Grade Request Form via DocuSign and must review and sign the form.

If students do not complete the required work in the agreed upon timeframe, the grade will revert to an “F.”
